Bound Edge Towel Tutorial

I found these vintage towels at the thrift store the other day - 30 cents each.  But they were an odd size - either very large hand towels or really small bath towels.  I wanted to use them as hand/tea towels so I trimmed them down a bit, added a bound edge and . . .

. . . voila!

My new kitchen hand towel.

1.  Create your binding

Apply binding:

  1. This is really a great idea. Most towels fray at the edges before they are worn out. This would extend their lives. Am I interpreting it correctly that in the last step you leave the pins in when you turn the towel to the right side and sew with the pins in?

  2. I sew with the pins in - but remove them as I go if they're in the way. This holds the binding lined up with the original sewn line so that the back side will "catch", thus being sewn down. Hope this makes sense.
